Scent Scaping

Having recently purchased a new home I have been thrusted into the world of design of course, but to be honest I have been absolutely obsessed with getting the feel of the home just right!

And for me, this has me leaning heavy into making sure I have the perfect signature fragrance for the house. Which has proven to be not quite as easy as I imagined it would be! I haven’t been able to settle on what the signature scent will be just yet, but what I have landed on is that it won’t be just one!

Now, why not just one scent? Well, because I am approaching this through the process of scent scaping!

What exactly is scent scaping?

Well, it is the practice of using scents to create a specific ambiance or atmosphere in your space. And doing this involves strategically selecting and placing scents throughout your home to create a particular mood or effect for each area!

You can do this by using essential oils or herbs, scented candles or event air fresheners. The goal of scent scaping is to enhance the overall sensory experience of your home in order to create a more inviting and comfortable environment. In addition, scent scaping can have therapeutic benefits, such as reducing stress and improving your mood! It is widely known that scents have been used in the past for a myriad of reason from religious rituals and ceremonies, to medicinal purposes!

Recently fragrance zoning has been introduced as a sort-of scent scaping but to encourage the separation of work and relaxation, especially for this who work from home!

When you decide to lean into scent scaping you can really enhance the ambiance of different rooms in your home, promote relaxation, reduce stress, and improve overall well-being! I am using the process to really create a cohesive mood throughout the house and trigger zones throughout the house that trigger a beautiful sensory experience for not only me but those who I welcome into the space!

One consideration for my personal home’s scent scaping is that I want to have certain rooms trigger great memories from my travels, promote calm and serenity and promote a spa-like experience, in the primary bath and powder rooms of course! So, while I haven’t decided on the signature scent, which will greet me and guests as they enter the house, at the very least I have identified what each transition to various parts of the houses should feel and what mood they should evoke!
