Seasons Spotlight: Figs

By now you know that eating in season is important and cannot have an enormously positive affect on both your health and your pocket book. So as we have been doing in the past seasons spotlight, we are going to talk about one particular seasonal produce, and this week is figs! Now I love figs! Figs are a wonderful fruit that can be added to various dishes to add a little flare!

SELECTING THE RIGHT FIG

In this case, you want to think parfume!  You want to select figs that smell delightful and are smooth. If you see any blemishes you most certainly want to leave those behind.

STORING FIGS

When you get them, use them!  Figs will go bad quickly.  Ideally you will want to use them within a day or two of purchase.  It is possible to keep them for up to 5 days though.

PREPARING FIGS

Before using your figs, rinse them and remove the stem.

Here are a few fig recipes that you give a go from around the web!
